Jean Weidner-Goldstein’s mother says she came out of the womb in high heels. “Dancers are sloppy, they work long hours, and they like comfortable clothes,” she says. “I wore suits.”

As a tourist, she is drawn to beautiful, but not necessarily expensive, things. “I wear costume jewelry most of the time,” she says. “I often see people looking to see if it’s the real thing.”
