Thirteen-year-old running back Mason Fischer threw a touchdown pass and rushed for another touchdown to lead the East Manatee Bulldogs Pee Wee team to a 24-0 shutout victory over the Manatee Wildcats Aug. 25. The Haile Middle School seventh-grader returned to the gridiron after taking last season off to play soccer.
What was it like to be back out on the football field after a year off?
It was great. I wanted to finally hit someone.
Of the four different positions that you play, which is your favorite?
Running back. I like to score touchdowns.
How did you get into football?
I started playing when I was 5 years old because of my brothers. I watched them play.
Do you prefer playing football or baseball?
Football. It’s more competitive than baseball.
Do you have any siblings?
Yes, I have three brothers: Stephen, who will be 21 years old Sept. 8, Ryan, 19, J.T., 15, and a twin sister Makenzie, 13.
Between yourself and your three brothers, who is the best football player?
Stephen. He teaches me the most and comes out and practices with me.
What’s the best part about being a twin?
She likes to do stuff with me.
Who is your biggest role model?
My brothers. They are the reason I started playing football.
What’s your favorite subject?
Physical education. I like to run.
If you could play another sport for a day, what would it be?
Lacrosse. You get to hit people with your lacrosse stick.
If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would it be?
A cruise. It looks fun.
What’s your favorite TV show?
“Gator Boys.” I like to seem them catch gators.
If you could have one super power, what would it be?
The (ability) to fly. I would like to go anywhere I want to.
What’s your favorite food?
Cheese pizza.
