The Florida Department of Transportation has announced a public meeting to discuss the construction of pedestrian cross walks on Midnight Pass Road between Stickney Point Road and Beach Road, according to a press release from FDOT.

The Sept. 17 meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5394 Midnight Pass Road. The church is located about 100 feet from the intersection where Donna Chen was struck and killed by a drunk driver earlier this year. That accident sparked an outcry from many Siesta residents for lower speed limits and more safety signage on the island.

Visual displays of project aspects will be on display, and FDOT representatives will be taking questions and comments from members of the public.
