Cops Corner: East County

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Aug. 22
Family feud
4:55 p.m. — 4200 block of 30th Lane E. Battery. A man threw a sheet at his mother and shoved his sister to the ground during an argument. After the man was handcuffed, he attempted to head butt a deputy and then kicked the deputy in the leg. The man proceeded to kick out the driver’s-side window once he was in the back of the patrol car.

Sept. 2
Tough love
4:32 p.m. — 37800 block of S.R. 64 E. Battery. A woman slapped her live-in fiancé during an argument, bit him on the arm and kneed him in the groin area before finally calming down. When she was arrested, she was also found to have a small bag of marijuana in her pocket.

Sept. 5
Cat burglar
10:08 a.m. — 5900 block of 28th Ave. Drive E. Petit Theft. A woman reported that she believes her neighbor stole her cat and said that her neighbor has told her that the cat in question belongs to him and that she stole it from him. She said that the cat lives outside and would be easy to steal. Deputies had no more information available about the neighbor.

Sept. 7
Disappearing act
4:27 p.m. — 15600 block of Sugar Bowl Road. Larceny. A man said that he had a food stamp card with a $200 balance on it that disappeared after his friend showed up with a Playstation and other items at the camper where he lives. He said that his friend admitted to taking it, and the balance is now at $0. The friend left behind the Playstation, saying he didn’t care about it, which the man now believes was stolen. The man showed a deputy a Facebook conversation about the incident, but the deputy found nothing incriminating.

10:35 p.m. — 15100 block of Linn Park Terrace. Aggravated Assault. A man reported that he was sitting in his vehicle with the window down when another man approached him with a machete in his right hand asking, “When you gonna pay me?” The man was able to leave the area in his vehicle.

Sept. 9
Concrete evidence
8:46 a.m. — 8400 block of 37th St. E. Criminal Mischief. A liquor store manager noticed while opening the store that someone threw a piece of concrete at the window, causing a small crack. The store does not have video surveillance in the front entrance where the window is located.

Sept. 10
The gate escape
12:40 a.m. — 8400 block of Gardens Circle. Trespass Warning. Six people who were in a closed pool area attempted to flee when they spotted a deputy. Two were injured, possibly from trying to jump the fence, and were treated by EMS.

Sept. 12
Booze clues
5:37 p.m. — 8500 block of Cooper Creek Blvd. Petit Theft. A liquor store manager reported that a man and three women came into the business and placed eight to 12 bottles of liquor in their pockets, purses and under their dresses and left without paying. Deputies issued an alert for their vehicle but were unable to locate the suspects.

Sept. 13
Everything but the kitchen sink
9:49 a.m. — 7400 block of Vista Way. Theft From Building. An unknown person entered an apartment and stole the air conditioner, appliances and bathroom fixtures, vanities and mirrors.

Sept. 14
Call me, maybe …
4:55 a.m. — 1400 block of Millbrook Circle. Harassing Telephone Calls. A woman called the sheriff’s office to report that she and her family have been receiving harassing telephone calls from an unknown number for the past six months. The caller sounds like an older white intoxicated male and gets belligerent and says “disgusting things” to the family when they answer. The first time the man called, he asked for his friend but continued to call after he was told that it was no longer his friend’s number.
