Cops Corner: East County

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. 

Sept. 16
Chain reaction
11:34 p.m. — 8300 block of Lockwood Ridge Road. Domestic Disturbance. A woman drove to a bar to look for her husband and saw him kissing another woman in the parking lot. The wife said that she and the other woman got into a physical altercation. She told deputies that when she arrived home later and saw her husband’s Jeep, she immediately put her vehicle in reverse, causing her to hit her apartment’s garage, which then caused her to lose control of her vehicle and strike the Jeep.

Sept. 18
Cashing out
9:43 a.m. — 3700 block of 84th Avenue Circle East. Suspicious Incidents. A man deposited what looked like a $500 starter check at a bank and got $250 cash back, along with wiring instructions, after he said he would be getting an $80,000 settlement. He attempted to cash another starter check from the same account for more than $67,000 but was told that it would be held for several days. He later returned and got the remaining $300 from the original check, which bank employees found was returned due to insufficient funds. The next day he tried to cash another $750 check from a different account but was refused.

Fool me twice?
11:55 a.m. — 4900 block of Clubview Court East. Suspicious Incidents. A woman reported that she hired an employee from a locksmith company then called the company because the employee left a piece of equipment behind. The company told her that the man did not work for them. Later, the employee called and said he had left equipment behind and said that he worked for a different locksmith company. Deputies asked the woman if she could have accidentally called the company that the man works for when she originally needed the locksmith. The woman said it was a possibility but an unlikely one because she would have had to make the same mistake twice.

Home heist
1:12 p.m. — 6900 block of Wauchula Road. Burglary. Sometime between March 18 and Sept. 18, an unknown person removed furniture and appliances from a home and entered a carry-all work truck. The person removed property from the work truck and took a flat-bed trailer parked near the truck.

To catch a predator
5:17 p.m. — 4500 block of 30th Street East. Information. After searching an online database for sexual predators, a woman identified a suspicious man she had seen on several occasions standing with two dogs near her children’s school.

Texting exes
6:43 p.m. — 8800 block of Manor Loop. Violating Domestic Violence Injunction. A woman reported that her ex-boyfriend kept texting her even though there is a no-contact order in place. The woman said that she then showed up at her ex’s residence and found another woman there. Her ex-boyfriend told her that he would call police if she didn’t leave. The exes were already separated when deputies arrived.

Sept. 19
When one door closes …
10:20 a.m. — 3600 block of Oak Grove Drive. False Imprisonment. A woman reported that a person, whose relation to her was redacted from the sheriff’s incident report, forced open the front door of her residence, followed her to the master bedroom, closed the door, then stood in front of her, blocking the door. The woman said that she ran out the bedroom through another door. She refused to provide any additional information about the person of interest.

Hammer hit
10:45 a.m. — 3300 block of 47th Ave. E. Criminal Mischief. A man reported a small dent and paint chip to the front hood of his vehicle, possibly caused by a hammer. He didn’t know who was responsible but said there are several young juveniles who run around the neighborhood at night.
