Braden River comes up short against Port Charlotte

The Braden River High football team fell to Port Charlotte 29-14 in its Homecoming game tonight.

Trailing 7-0, senior running back Austin Rain broke free and ran down the sideline for a 30-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter.

Port Charlotte scored on a 50-yard touchdown pass and a 46-yard touchdown run to take a 22-7 lead at halftime. Braden River pulled within a touchdown when senior quarterback Eric Schappacher connected with sophomore wide receiver Justin Ross for a 15-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Port Charlotte scored on a 49-yard touchdown run on the first play of its ensuing possession to seal the game. Braden River returns to action Oct. 5 in in district opener versus Manatee.
