+ ODA, Cardinal Mooney crown county champions
The Out-of-Door Academy crowned three individual champions March 26, at the Sarasota County Championships.
Tre Gregory broke his own school record, clearing 13-00 to win the boys pole vault. Ashtin Frank cleared 9-00 to win the girls pole vault. Madison Shaw crossed the finish line in 52.24 to win the 300-meter hurdles title.
Cardinal Mooney’s Grace Casagrande was the Cougars’ lone individual champion, winning the 800 in 2:26.
The ODA girls team scored 62 points to finish fifth overall. Cardinal Mooney was sixth with 34.5 points.
On the boys side, the Cougars finished sixth, and ODA was seventh.
+ Wave Runners make splash at FLAGS meet
Five members of the Lakewood Ranch YMCA Wave Runners swim team competed in multiple events at the Florida Age Group Championships March 8 through March 10, in Sarasota.
This year’s qualifiers are:
• Amelia Skoumal (50 freestyle and 50 backstroke)
• Suzie Aguirre (50 free, 50 butterfly and 100 free)
• Ryan Walker (50 free, 100 free, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke)
• Courtney Chapin (50 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 free, 100 back and 200 back)
• Sebastian Aguirre (50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, 100 fly, 50 back and 100 individual medley)

Cardinal Mooney LAX
The Cardinal Mooney boys and girls lacrosse teams both posted wins over The Out-of-Door Academy March 26.
Blair Brannan, Lindsay Savigne, Haley McCurdy and Bridget Walsh each scored two goals to lead the Lady Cougars to a 10-5 victory.
Kimmy Comito had three goals to pace the Lady Thunder.
On the boys side, the Cougars cruised to an 18-1 victory. Adam Scalisi had four goals and three assists, and Mike Kahl had three goals and four assists to lead the way for Cardinal Mooney.
Ben Martin scored the lone goal for the Thunder.
