When nature calls ...
Former Longboat Key Town Commission candidate Larry Grossman found a cup with unknown excrement on his front step and a small bag of excrement in his garbage can, according to a March 27 report.
Police say Grossman’s neighbor, Philip Siegel, confirmed he put the cup on the step because it came from Grossman’s cat, which is in the neighbor’s carport area every morning and uses the neighbor’s carport and lawn for a restroom.
The report states police told Siegel he could get a trespass warning and told Grossman town ordinance requires pets to be on a leash.
But Longboat Key Police Chief Pete Cumming said that most ordinances, including leash laws, don’t relate to cats.
“We curiously have very few ordinances about cats as long as they aren’t being a nuisance,” he said.
