NO ONE LIVES

Artist in Attendance

WWE SUPERSTAR BRODUS CLAY SCHEDULED TO WALK THE 8:15 PM RED CARPET!

A seemingly normal wealthy couple are on a cross country journey when they are attacked and kidnapped by a group of ruthless highway killers. But it is only once the couple are in their hands that the shocks really begin. Japanese horror master Ryûhei Kitamura makes a triumphant return with the terrifying NO ONE LIVES, a worthy successor to Kitamura’s underground horror classics MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN and VERSUS. NO ONE LIVES is a film that is defined by its refusal to play by genre conventions, offering a twisting narrative that looks to deliver on the promise of the film’s foreboding title.

CUTIE AND THE BOXER

Artist in Attendance

Ushio Shinohara is a painter with an unorthodox method; donning boxing gloves and goggles, he creates sprawling abstract canvases by punching paint onto them. While his work has a violent beauty, Ushio has remained relatively unknown despite decades living in New York City’s art scene. But as Ushio prepares for a major show, his long suffering wife Noriko revives her own of dreams of creating art and, eager to shed her role as her overbearing husband’s assistant, decides to begin working anew. A tender portrait of an enduring love, CUTIE AND THE BOXER is proof that it is never too late to find your voice.

CRASH REEL

In THE CRASH REEL, Lucy Walker uses the intimacy and power of cinema verité to take us on an exhilarating ride through the life of Kevin Pearce, a champion snowboarder in love with the freedom his sport provides. The film documents his dizzying and adrenalin busting rise to the top of the snowboarding world and the terrible accident that changed his life forever. WE ALWAYS LIE TO STRANGERS

Branson, Missuori is a small town (population 10,500) tucked away in the Ozark Mountains. Built on a tradition of faith, nation, community and good old fashioned musical entertainment, Branson brings in over $3,000,000,000 a year in tourist revenue, primarily from American audiences looking for entertainment that addresses their values. Five years in the making, AJ Schnack and David Wilson’s WE ALWAYS LIE TO STRANGERS is a document of the lives of the city’s prominent performing families as they look to maintain Branson’s preeminence in the face of economic uncertainty and a changing nation.

NEWLYWEEDS

Artist in Attendance

NEWLYWEEDS observes Lyle (Amari Cheatom) and Nina (Trae Harris) who are in love with each other and with getting high, perhaps not in that order. Lyle makes his living repossessing rented furniture from the destitute, and smoking weed whenever possible. While Nina yearns for more, she seems unable to break out of the self-medicated loop. Through a series of circumstances, the seemingly happy couple find that the life they had was built on a stack of smoke and is quickly and irrevocably evaporating.

REMOTE AREA MEDICAL

Artist in Attendance

With the debate over healthcare reform raging nationwide, what’s been lost in the discussion are Americans who live every day without proper access to healthcare. Unable to afford treatment, many choose to suffer through minor illnesses in the hopes that they’ll just go away. REMOTE AREA MEDICAL documents the annual two-day “pop-up” medical clinic operated by the non-profit Remote Area Medical (RAM) at the NASCAR speedway in Bristol, Tennessee. This is an unflinching look at people in need of care and the one-of-a-kind community that assembles in the hope of securing a healthy future.
