Children at Work

Many children did not attend school Thursday, April 25, and instead went to work as part of the 20th annual Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day.  

Glorida Steinem and the Ms. Foundation founded the program in 1993 and was originally called Take Our Daughters To Work. In 2003, the program was officially expanded to include boys, however, many companies participating in the annual program had already been allowing employees bring their sons to work, as well.

Many schools ask the students to write a report or some how incorporate their day away from school back into their schoolwork.

Check out some students who accompanied their parents to work today here in Sarasota:

Amelia White, 8, of Southside Elementary, spent the dad working hard at Sarasota Architectural Salvage along side her dad, Jesse White. Amelia helped to find door knockers and hooks for a customer and enjoyed having lunch with her dad.

Cousins Wendy Alvarado, 10, and Max de la Cruz, 10, both of Tuttle Elementary, spent time with their mom’s at Hotel Indigo. Wendy and Max met the staff, helped with some cleaning and made taffy bags for the guests of the hotel.   

Duncan Roth, 11, of Wakeland Elementary, spent his day with his dad, Sean Roth, at the Business Observer office. Duncan had fun meeting members of the newspaper staff and learning about what everyone does at the office.
