Community members joined the Sarasota Police Department tonight for National Night Out.

The police department hosted the event to build a stronger and safer community and to get to know its neighbors. The National Association of Town Watch puts on National Night Out, which marked its 30th anniversary today.

During the Sarasota  event, officers from different divisions met with Sarasotans, educating them about their roles in law enforcement. The Dive, CSI and SWAT team showed the gear they use while on the job. Also, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office flew in its helicopter.

McGruff the Crime Dog posed for photographs and visitors watched K-9 demonstrations.  Children enjoyed the bouncy house and recieved prizes at the corn hole game.

The band Mock performed classic-rock hits and community leaders were in attendance.
