Susan Phillips, assistant to town manager, was "arrested" on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Longboat Key Town Hall and was "booked" at Ruth’s Chris where she waited until she had raised adequate funds for bail. Phillips and the other jailbirds were participating in Muscular Dystrophy Association’s lock-up event, which raises funds for people with neuromuscular diseases.

Several MDA patients attended the event and provided testimonials about how much MDA has done for them and how important this event is for the association.

“It was a very successful fundraiser for MDA and personally enriching to have been able to help,” says Phillips.

Phillips raised $2,517 for her bail — exceeding her goal of $2,500.
