Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe took "Soul Crooners" to Winston-Salem, Nc. to the National Black Theatre Festival, and just returned to town with some good news.
It was news to begin with that they were invited to perform for their first time at the national festival, which showcases African-American performers to an audience of more than 60,000 people. But, even more newsworthy, is that the group’s performance caused quite a stir as indicated by four sold-out performances.
"The audiences were ecstatic and their enthusiasm for our show was exceptional," says Nate Jacobs in a prepared statement. "The applause was thunderous and spontaneous standing ovations became the norm. Word spread quickly and by the second day, there was not a ticket to be found."
The original cast that performed in Sarasota for the first "Soul Crooners," is the same cast that took it on the road: Nate Jacobs, Emmanuel Avraham, Charles Manning, Michael Mendez, Leon Pitts II and Sheldon Roden. Congrats to WBTT!
