"Lee Daniels' The Butler"
Three Popcorns
Genre: Drama
Cast: Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda
Director: Lee Daniels
Rating: PG-13
Comment: A well written and acted illustration of the ravages of slavery, through the civil rights movement up to the first black President of the United States. All seen through the eyes of a long-time White House butler.
"Blue Jasmine"
Three Popcorns
Genre: Drama
Cast: Michael Stuhlbarg, Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Louis C.K., Bobby Cannavale, Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard
Director: Woody Allen
Rating: PG-13
Comment: The epitome of a tragic comedy. Blanchett is outstanding in this picture. Allen's neurotically insane comedy comes through in spades amid the "tragic" lives of the principals.
"The Wolverine"
Two Popcorns
Genre: Action/Adventure
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, Hiroyuki Sanada, Svetlana Khodchenkova
Director: James Mangold
Rating: PG-13
Comment: For those who enjoy watching Jackman with his shirt off, it's a big hit. Other than that it is a super hero story trying to be unnecessarily esoteric, "long winded," lame lines and with completely over-the-top stupid action. Can wait for the next one.
"Jobs"
Three Popcorns
Genre: Drama
Cast: Ashton Kutcher, Dermot Mulroney, Josh Gad, Lukas Haas, Matthew Modine
Director: Joshua Michael Stern
Rating: PG-13
Comment: Masterful performance by Ashton Kutcher portraying Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Computer, building and growing the new high tech company.
