+ Golfers tee off during Tournament of Champions
The Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association hosted its Tournament of Champions event July 28 and 29, at the Ritz-Carlton Members Club in Lakewood Ranch.
Thirty-seven golfers qualified for the event by earning points during the past six months.
Jeremy Perna earned event medalist honors after firing a 7-under par 137.

+ Sarasota SUP Series returns this weekend
The second Sarasota Stand Up Paddleboard Series race will be held Aug. 24, at Nathan Benderson Park.
The event will begin with a six-mile elite race at 8:30 a.m. followed by a three-mile open race at 10:30 a.m.
Dash for Cash sprint races also will run along the shoreline throughout the day.
In addition to the races, competitors and spectators can participate in a landboarding course, a penny skateboard slalom and board demonstrations. Vendor tents, lunch and music also will be available on site.
Cost is $45 for the elite race and $35 for the open race. Awards will be given to the top-three finishers in each division.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Suncoast Charities for Children. Following the elite and open races, competitors will be sharing the paddleboarding experience with area special-needs children in an afternoon Kids Paddle session.

+ Fleet Feet Sarasota offers training program
Fleet Feet Sarasota will begin holding a No Boundaries training program for those interested in joining a fitness program with the goal of completing a 5K or five-mile race in October.
The 10-week program is designed for beginners, as well as those looking for their next challenge.
Cost is $95 with an additional race registration fee.
Participants will receive one-on-one motivational guidance and advice from No Boundaries coaches, a New Balance performance shirt and a Fleet Feet Sarasota coupon book.
The program features two weekly group training run/walks, as well as educational clinics on various topics, including proper nutrition and avoiding injury.
Group runs and seminars take place every Tuesday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (7 a.m.) through Oct. 22.

+ i9 sports gearing up for fall season
i9 sports is now holding registration for its fall season, which will run Sept. 28 through Nov. 16.
Players, ages 3-14, can participate in flag football, soccer, basketball, cheerleading and T-ball.
Games will be played at various sites in Lakewood Ranch, North Manatee and Sarasota County.

+ Rower wins silver medal
Sarasota Crew rower Shawna Sims won a silver medal for Team USA in the 4x at the World Rowing Junior Championships Aug. 10, in Lithuania.
Sims, a senior at Venice High, and her teammates crossed the finish line in 6:35.33 to finish second behind Italy (6:34.44).
