The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. 

Aug. 13
Workers comp
3:06 p.m. — 10900 block of Technology Terrace.
Theft. Unknown person(s) took items from the open bed of a man’s work truck while his crew was doing a job. The person(s) fled the scene in a black pick-up truck. There were no signs of forced entry.

Property loss
6:28 p.m. — 1400 block of Millbrook Circle. Burglary. Unknown person(s) entered the victim’s residence, possibly though a rear sliding glass door. Once inside, the person(s) stole two iPads, a laptop computer and numerous jewelry pieces. The stolen items are valued at $2,012. The home had no signs of forced entry.

Shopping spree
7:17 p.m. — 7300 block of 52nd Place E. Theft. A deputy responded to a call from loss-prevention staff at a department store who said the store had detained two women for shoplifting. The females had selected items from shelves and placed them into bags. They exited the store without paying for the items, valued at $807.58. Both of the women were charged with felony retail theft and transported to jail.

Tag grab
7:52 pm. — 4400 block of 44th Ave. E. Grand Theft. A woman reported her vehicle tag was stolen. She said she had parked her vehicle at an auto shop to have repairs done. When she went to pick up the vehicle, she noticed the tag missing. The woman doesn’t believe a shop employee stole the tag.

Aug. 15
Unbreakable
12:57 a.m. — 1300 block of 60th Street E. 
Burglary. During the afternoon, unknown person(s) entered an enclosed lanai and attempted to enter a home by breaking the sliding glass door. The door, sturdy with double pane glass and fitted with a security film, could not be pried open. The person(s) fled in an unknown direction.

Coolin’ off
1:19 a.m. — 7100 block of State Road 70 E. Property Damage. A person caused a disturbance at a restaurant. Upon leaving the restaurant, he pushed its glass door open with both hands, causing the glass to be dislodged from the frame. After deputies confronted the man, he fled northbound and jumped into an adjacent lake. He then exited the lake and was arrested.

That’s not cool
6:05 a.m. — 3100 block of 29th Avenue E. Theft. Overnight, unknown person(s) disassembled the air-conditioning units on the side of a building and removed the metal from inside it. The person(s) also tampered with a power box belonging to a major power company and removed its fuse before leaving it on the ground. The person(s) fled with the property in an unknown direction. The business across the street was victimized in the same manner.

Tailed
7:10 a.m. — 3200 block of 45th Way E. Theft. Unknown person(s) stole the tailgate from a vehicle. The person took the tailgate by detaching its cables before ripping it off the truck. No other vehicles in the neighborhood were damaged.

Aug. 21
Need to read
3:25 p.m. — 7200 block of 55th Avenue E. 
Counterfeit Money. An unknown person(s) bought books at a discount department store using a fake $5 bill.

Aug. 23
Scare tactic
1:35 a.m. — 3200 block of 58th Terrace E.
Information Only. A man reported he saw two people by his neighbor’s vehicle. The two males ran when they saw him. A deputy checked the vehicle and saw no signs someone had tried to forcefully enter it. The vehicle’s doors were wet, and the deputy did not find signs the water had been disturbed. No other nearby vehicles were burglarized. The deputy could not make contact with the owner of the vehicle.
