Saturday, the Sea of Strengths Academy will host a screening of a documentary depicting the struggles of learning with dyslexia — Dislecksia: The Movie.

Filmmaker Harvey Hubble uses his personal experiences, as someone with dyslexia, to shine light on misconceptions and stress the importance of early detection. The 84-minute film also takes aim at changing how dyslexia is viewed by society — not as a disability, but as a different way of learning.

By offering the viewing for free, the academy that educates children with "learning differences," hopes to draw awareness and create a forum particularly for dyslexic children and their families.

"We are excited to show this film,” Co-founder of the Sea of Strengths Academy Susan Stevens said in a release. "We need to be talking about dyslexia and making sure students are diagnosed, supported and educated in a way that builds upon their many strengths."

Dislecksia: The Movie will be shown at 9 a.m. Dec. 7, at Burns Court Cinema, 506 Burns Court, Sarasota.
