The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce welcomes Kevin Cooper as vice president for public policy and Sarasota Tomorrow initiatives during a reception starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Flight Source International.

Cooper spent more than two years as executive director of the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce, a position in which he tackled the Siesta Key Crystal Classic and the Fourth of July fireworks, among other major island initiatives.

"In my years out on Siesta Key we saw some real community successes through collaboration," Cooper said, which he will bring to the new position with the Chamber.

“We needed a key executive with a record of focused work, strong results, and a high level of commitment,” said Chamber President Steve Queior in a news release. Cooper will work with state and local government officials and push community and economic development projects ahead as part of the position.

"I feel really good (about the new position)," Cooper said.
