Riverview soccer players support alumnus
Members of the Riverview High School boys soccer team volunteered at the Walk for Epilepsy Saturday, Nov. 16, at Payne Park. Players set up tents, tables, flags and signs before participating in the walk. The event raised about $35,000 for the JoshProvides Epilepsy Assistance Foundation and epilepsy services of Southwest Florida. The Rams contribution was $700. JoshProvides was founded in honor of Josh Chapnick, a Riverview alumnus and former member of the school’s soccer team.
Law and Order
Students of Booker High School’s Law Academy participated in a mock jury selection Tuesday, Dec. 10. The selection is part of the school’s Broadway League Grant Seminar. Ten schools across the country receive the grant each year. Local attorneys Shelli Freeland Eddie and Adam Tebrugge acted as the prosecutor and defense attorney, respectively.
This year, students used the Roxie Hart murder case from the Broadway musical “Chicago” as their example. Jury selection is one of five themes the Law Academy taught. Next, the Law Academy will explore the theme of celebrity lawyers and their impact on high-profile cases.
