Sarasota Christian School students spent Tuesday, Dec. 3, giving back to their community.

The day, dubbed “Giving Tuesday,” was organized as a part of a capstone class assignment for senior students. High school students helped 13 nonprofits with everyday chores.

Capstone is a course focused on helping students prepare for college and the future, not only through academic lessons, but also community outreach projects.

Students were asked to think of a project in which Sarasota Christian high school students could participate.
At Family Promise, a center that helps newly homeless families, students cleaned the bus used to transport families, washed the windows of the center’s “promise house” and organized a storage space. Senior Cece Genson said the experience was fun and eye-opening.

Although this is the first Giving Tuesday, Sarasota Christian Principal Pete Conner said the day would become an annual event for future classes.

Other organizations included in the day were the Salvation Army, Save Our Seabirds, Community Haven and the Southeastern Guide Dog Center.
