The Sarasota County School District has announced that starting in spring 2014 it will offer all students in traditional K-12 schools Microsoft’s Office 365 software package for free.

The free suite of programs offered to students is made possible by a partnership between the County School District and Microsoft, and will include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more.

Students will also receive a Sarasota County student email account, 25 GB of cloud storage for their documents and the option to use Microsoft’s cloud-based version of the Office package.

Joe Binswanger, the district’s director of Information Technology says that the introduction of these future technologies will “help bridge the ‘digital gap’ between school and home, giving students 24/7 access to the tools they need to create, edit, share and collaborate in the 21st century.”
