Cap off your measly 9 hours and 32 minutes of daylight with a great event Saturday night. Don’t miss The Ringling’s Greet the Light Winter Solstice Celebration — it starts at 7 p.m.

The event celebrating the shortest day of the year will host DJ Imminent, fire dancers, and food and drinks in the museum’s courtyard. It’ll be a big party for all ages. The museum is hosting this event for a few reasons. For one, to celebrate the Winter Solstice. It’s also the second anniversary of Joseph’s Coat Skyspace (It opened Dec. 22, 2011 for the Winter Solstice). And more so, the party will celebrate the launch of this season’s Art of Our Time Initiative “nowHERE.”

“nowHERE” is the Ringling’s push for contemporary art and includes a few different series. “Collecting Recollections” features guest speakers who will tell about Sarasota’s history. There’s also “New Stages," which hosts musical and dance performances. Be sure to catch the talks with the curators featuring Dwight Currie and Matthew McLendon — they’ll present an in-depth an intelligent exploration of the art you will encounter throughout 2014.

So, there’s a lot of celebrating to be had with all The Ringling has going on. Make your way there from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $15. Call 360-7399 or visit ringling.org for more information.
