Plans are underway to develop a key piece of downtown Sarasota real estate.

On Tuesday, Dec. 24, a sign went up at the long-vacant property at the corner of U.S. 41 and North Gulfstream Avenue announcing a new condominium development planned for the site — Vue Sarasota Bay.

Although details are still under wraps about the size, scale and look of the new development, and the project's developers — Michael Saunders and Co. and Kolter Homes — did not immediately return requests for comment, an inquiry submitted through the project's website prompted an email response stating that the new condominium project will allow residents to enjoy a "walkable lifestyle" in downtown Sarasota, and the building will feature panoramic vistas of Marina Jack, Sarasota Bay, the Gulf of Mexico and downtown Sarasota.

According the project website, a sales gallery, hosted by Michael Saunders and Co., will be opening soon at 100 S. Washington Blvd., Sarasota.

The announcement of the Vue Sarasota Bay development comes on the heels of several other high-profile developments planned for the Sarasota bayfront area, including the AQUA luxury condominiums planned for Golden Gate Point; a project that was featured in a billboard ad in New York's Times Square in November.

The new project also highlights the area's rebounding construction and real estate market in the wake of the recession.
