Small spill
12:03 p.m. — 5300 block of GMD. Gas Leak. Police and firefighters responded to the scene of a small gasoline spill.

2:26 p.m. — Gulf of Mexico Drive and North Shore Road. Dog on the Beach. A woman agreed to leave after police told her that dogs are prohibited on the beach.

A break in the case?
12:18 p.m. — 700 block of St. Judes Drive S. Public Service. A woman reported that an unknown person broke her water meter. Police spoke to three tree-company employees who were working nearby and said they hadn’t seen anybody near the water meter. Police noted the company’s work truck and piles of debris in the immediate area of the broken pipe.
School of hard knocks
7:18 p.m. — 1000 block of Bogey Lane. Suspicious Person. A young woman reportedly knocked on a resident’s door and asked to use the phone because her cell phone wasn’t working. The woman told police she was a college student and was working on a school project for which she was supposed to approach people in their homes and ask them about their careers. She also tried to sell gift baskets as part of the project. Police told her that she needed a solicitation permit.

No, he’s not a Longboater
4:23 a.m. — 1400 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. Police stopped a man driving a Chevrolet Astro van with only one headlight. The driver is a sex offender but isn’t wanted. He received a written warning.
That’s a tough blow
6:01 a.m. — 5500 block of GMD. Juvenile Nuisance. A property manager told several juveniles in the clubhouse and pool area to leave. They gave him a hard time and blew smoke in his face but left.
Property rights
12:01 p.m. — 6600 block of GMD. Parking. A man told police that a couple had been parking in front of a property he manages each morning for the past couple of days and walking to the beach. Police found the car parked at a neighboring home. The couple who owned the car was fishing nearby. The man said that he had permission from the home’s owner to park there but couldn’t provide verification.
No dogs allowed
12:11 p.m. — 3800 block of GMD. Dog on the Beach. When police told a Massachusetts man that dogs are prohibited on the beach, he apologized and said that he wasn’t aware of the town’s ordinance.
Jan. 27
Late-night excursion
12:26 a.m. — 100 block of GMD. Juvenile Nuisance. After police saw them standing near an intersection, three youths told police they were waiting for a ride. They said that they had been to Lido Beach but decided to walk to a gas station, unaware that it was closed. Police allowed them to leave with their ride but contacted Sarasota police to let them know that the group was headed toward Sarasota.
