The truth about curls

Now that the weather is cool and the breeze from the Gulf of Mexico is blowing in, you'll want to roll down those car windows and let the wind blow back your hair. The truth about curls is that they are rebellious, sometimes stubborn, and never boring. With the proper care and a few killer styling products, those wild tendrils can become every woman’s best asset.

Here’s what you need to know if you want to achieve the perfect head of curls:

  • Curls are back! Flaunt them and shake your hair free.
  • There are actually websites and blogs just for those curls. It’s like your own society.
  • Second-day and third-day curls are the best.
  • Hair nets---I know it sounds crazy, but this really works! Put all your favorite products in your hair as usual. Arrange your curls as you want them to fall. Before you leave the house, put your hairnet on. Sure, folks may think you work at a bread factory, but there are many trendy hairnets on the market to achieve that Joan Crawford look. Once you get to your destination, pull out some shine spray (I recommend Bumble & Bumble's "The Shine") and scrunch your curls.

My favorite products for those sexy curls are by Paul Mitchell and Bumble and Bumble.

Tonic will give you the foundation for the second and third day hair, and it refreshes the look.

Defining Cream enhances curls and cuts down the frizz.

Holding Foam keeps curls together with flexibility and durable hold, even in humidity.

Spray De Mode is part working spray, part finishing spray for a strong yet flexible hold.

Twirl Around's dual formula of cream and gel creates soft, shiny, frizz-free spirals.

Ultimate Wave is a humidity-resistant cream gel that forms, separates and adds loads of texture.

My number-one tip for those luscious curls: Start in the shower with Curl Conscious smoothing shampoo and conditioner.

Shake it, baby, and flaunt those curls.
