Sarasota Christian School freshman point guard Blake Morrow finished with 28 points, seven assists and six rebounds to lead the Blazers to a 71-56 victory over St. Petersburg Canterbury in the Class 2A-District 9 championship Feb. 8.

Morrow has scored 474 points this season, leading Sarasota Christian to a 20-7 record and its second-consecutive district title.

Morrow will lead the Blazers into the Class 2A-Region 3 quarterfinals versus District 10 runner-up Southwest Florida Christian Feb. 14.

"I like the feeling of the game. You can become good if you work hard every day and do the things you need to do to become good.

I think we knew coming into the game that we were going to win. We beat them by 60 points the last time we played them. We had that mindset, and they played well. We weren’t really thinking this was a team that could beat us. Now we know we can’t come in thinking we’re going to win just because we beat a team.

I work hard every day.
That’s helped me. My teammates help me get open, and they have confidence in me. They tell me to shoot if I want to shoot.

Defense is a mindset. I can play defense when I want. It’s whether I want to or not.

Winning a state championship would mean a lot, because Henry (Ford) is a close friend of mine. It’s his senior year, and he wants to win a state championship. So, it would be (great) to be able to play for a championship and have him go off of the court as winner and for us not to lose a game."
