This Week In Sarasota has been a leading source for community news, entertainment, events and opinion for seven years now---and we think it's high time to celebrate how far we've come.

That's why we're inviting you to the first-ever TWISFest, a meet-the-team bash and community showcase! Come hang out with the stellar group of writers, bloggers, photographers, commentators, discussion-starters and creatives who make TWIS happen on a daily basis.

Get out your datebook: From 7 p.m. to close on Saturday, March 2, Growlers Pub will graciously host the celebration. This favorite neighborhood watering hole boasts a rail of 30 taps, featuring American craft beer and imports, along with an extensive menu of bottled brew, wine and soda. TWIS is eternally grateful to Sherry and Kevin Kolyno and the Growlers staff for their enthusiastic support of TWISFest. [TWISFest is a 21+ event.]

But wait---that's not all. ... Did you think we'd throw a party solely on the power of cold beer and our collective charm?

- FOOD+DRINK -

Come early for some happy hour relaxation with friends and enjoy complimentary light bites from several of our favorite local restaurants. We'll announce a full list of our restaurant sponsors very soon.

We're also psyched that Flying Sliders from Suncoast Food Trucks will be parked right outside the bar, serving up savory sandwiches and other morsels that will fill your heart and belly to bursting with bite-sized goodness. If you just can't wait until March 2 to try a Flying Slider, you can score one every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ringling Picnic on 301 and Adams Ln. (Read Jack Littman-Quinn's article on Suncoast Food Trucks and interview with Flying Sliders' owner Andrew Seely here.)

Growlers Pub will dedicate their enormous "mystery tub" to TWISFest, stocking it with an assortment of cans and bottles to suit the high-brow palate at the low-brow price of $2 each. Reach inside the frosty barrel and score a tasty deal!

- LIVE MUSIC -

Starting at 8 p.m., we've put together an eclectic line-up of three local bands for your listening pleasure. Not only do we hope to get your feet tapping, but we also hope to represent just a tiny fraction of the diversity and talent that exists in Sarasota's music community.

GOOD GRAEFF - One mellow cello, one sweet guitar and twin sister voices blend together to create hauntingly beautiful acoustic pop.

VILLANOVA JUNCTION - You'll forget what decade you're in as you ride a wave of sensual psych and fierce vintage grooves.

GODSNACKFunky, homegrown electronic beats to make you move your feet.

- SECOND-HAND FASHION SHOW -

Calling all fashion retrofitters, style spotters, thrift shop mavens and catwalk prowlers: TWISFest wants you, your beautiful bod and your unique flair for our "BACKYARD FINDS" Second-Hand Fashion Show. If possess a thirst for thrifting, a yen for yard sales, a craving for consignments---if your closet is a trove of recycled treasures, then this is your chance to show them off.

Dress up in the fabulous finds of which you're most proud. Come early to TWISFest to sign up. Then strut it for your awestruck friends. All participants will be entered in a drawing for prizes! We have openings for just 20 models, and you can preregister by e-mailing [email protected]. Give us your name (we'll take the one your mama gave you, or better yet, invent a stage name), a few details on what finds you'll be modeling and where you discovered them. See you under the spotlight.

"Backyard Finds" will be directed by TWISFest's sizzlin' Master of Ceremonies, YoursTruly. You've seen her working the room at the annual Spandex Party, hyping the crowd at the Harvey Milk Festival and utterly slaying karaoke night at the Tavern On Main. We're very grateful that YoursTruly will grace TWISFest with her prodigious personality.

- LATE NIGHT DANCE PARTY -

After the music and fashion show, we don't plan to let the dust settle. Dance party host Potential Energy will take over until closing time, DJing a mix of high-octane electronic dance music with old-school vibes.

- ALL FOR A CAUSE -

This Week In Sarasota produces thoughtful, provocative and serious reporting on homelessness in Sarasota, and we want to take this opportunity to put our money where our mouth is: with the issues important to us. TWISFest is a free event, but we'll be collecting your generous donations throughout the evening to benefit the Resurrection House of Sarasota County. Resurrection House is a volunteer-operated, daytime resource center that provides the local homeless population with numerous essential services and facilities, including meals, showers, laundry, clothing, medical care, job placement, assistance with transportation and lodgings, and spiritual counseling. Resurrection house does not accept funding from the local, state or federal government. Its $500,000 annual operating budget is funded by the private sector alone. We deeply appreciate your show of support for this vitally important community resource when you join us for TWISFest.
