Change and evolution have always been exciting aspects of life. As we celebrate the new year, the major trends for 2013 are already hitting the pavement. From designers, beauty and fashion editors, to bloggers and photographers, the industry sets the tone for the year. A trusted source and a major trend forecaster is Pantone, the trusted authority in color for decades. The color Pantone chooses traditionally sets a strong trend in fashion and interior design each and every year. Allow me to show you certain ways to paint the town green without looking like you just jumped out of a Lucky Charms cereal box.

The 2013 Pantone color of the year is Emerald 17-5641. This green hue pays respect to the rare green precious stone that bears the same name. This jewel tone might seem a bit hard to wear and to some, such as the fashionable Iain Webb (Director of Sarasota Ballet), the color is completely unacceptable. It is through accessories that you can pull the color into your wardrobe without committing to a head-to-toe look, as in the fabulous Atelier Versace gown that Angelina Jolie wore for the 2011 Golden Globes.Scarves, bags, clutches, shoes, headbands and, of course, jewels are perfect and easy ways to sport the alluring color. Don't think that you must wear only emeralds in your jewelry; instead, go for a more casual approach and a new twist by wearing one of my favorite stones: malachite. The natural lines found in malachite make each cut very intriguing and unique.

In the beauty department, green nails are all the rage. Don't think pastel greens, which are so passé---go for a richer and deeper hue that will give a chic new look to your nails. A green-colored eyeliner looks amazing on brown eyes, and for the daring and “eligible,” a peacock green cream shadow will create outstanding, luxurious lids. For a bold move, there is nothing like a floor-length skirt in emerald green. It may be hard to find, but consider yourself in the exquisitely tasteful set when you do. A frock or cocktail dress in the same color is always fun and daring. Keep it to silks and chiffon with a bit of sheen to make that green fabric look bright and festive at night.

Pantone describes their chosen color as “Lively. Radiant. Lush ... A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.” I could not agree more! Remember that no matter what, the emerald green color is full of fun. It doesn't matter which way you choose to wear it, it will always turn heads ... unless, of course, you are in the presence of Mr. Webb.
