+ Sarasota High to hold cheerleading clinic
The Sarasota High cheerleading squad will hold an instructional cheer clinic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Sarasota High.

The clinic, which will feature elementary and middle school divisions, is $45 and includes lunch, photo and a T-shirt.

+ Booker Tornadoes blow past Sarasota Sailors
The Booker High boys basketball team cruised to an 80-50 victory over Sarasota Jan. 7.

Eric Mayes scored 13 points and hauled in 11 rebounds to pace the Tornadoes. Mike Jones and Blake Harper added 12 points apiece. Andre Johnson had 11 points.

Blake Haga and Dakota Cotner finished with 12 points apiece to lead the way for the Sailors.

+ ODA girls soccer blanks Bayshore
The Out-of-Door Academy girls soccer team blanked Bayshore 8-0 Jan. 7.

Eighth-grader Skylar Jungers had four goals and one assist to pace the Lady Thunder. Melanie Mason, Katie Lang, Alyssa Mason and Miller Condrack all added goals for ODA.

+ Lady Rams cruise to basketball victory
The Riverview High girls basketball team cruised to a 60-38 victory over Venice in non-district action Jan. 4.
Senior Gianna Vastola scored 28 points to pace the way for the Lady Rams. Kehtura Merrick finished with 11 points and Taylor Greenan added eight points.

+ Cardinal Mooney tops ODA in district action
The Cardinal Mooney boys and girls basketball teams both notched wins over The Out-of-Door Academy Jan. 4.

Sophomore Camille Giardina had 18 points, eight rebounds and seven steals to lead the Lady Cougars to a 39-22 victory. Bridget Walsh added 11 points.

Sophomore Lisa Hoffman finished with 11 points, 25 rebounds, eight blocks and four steals to lead the way for the Lady Thunder.

Sophomore guard Antonio Blakeney had 15 points and four assists to power the Cougars to a 66-35 victory.
Jamie Glasser added 13 points and four assists. Matt Hueston had eight points, 12 rebounds and three assists.

+ Sarasota Cal Ripken registration upcoming
Registration for the Sarasota Cal Ripken Baseball 2013 Spring season will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 12, 19 and 26, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 16 and 23, at the complex, 2801 12th St., Sarasota.

Minor and Major tryouts will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 24 and 28.

Registration is $120 for T-ball; $150 for Rookies; $160 for Minors; and $170 for Majors.
Opening Day is set for 9 a.m. March 2.

+ Fleet Feet Sarasota to start No Boundaries training
Fleet Feet Sarasota will begin its new “No Boundaries: Couch to 5K or 10K” training program Jan. 15.

Group runs and seminars will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 7:30 a.m. Saturdays through March 26, at Fleet Feet, 1830 S. Osprey Ave.

The program is designed for those wanting to complete a new or existing exercise goal or fitness program with the goal of completing the Life of Son 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles) March 23.

Cost is $95 for the 10-week program. Race registration fees are an additional cost.
