+ GSJGA tees off Winter Tournament Series
The Greater Sarasota Junior Golf Association began its Winter Tournament Series Jan. 13, at the Royal Lakes Course of the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.

Nearly 50 players participated in the event. Tournament winners include:

+ Mustang grapplers go 3-1
The Lakewood Ranch High wrestling team went 3-1 at the Dr. McBath Tough Man Duals Jan. 12, at Pasco High.

The Mustangs defeated North Marion (37-34), Lake Wales (57-16) and The Villages, who are ranked No. 11 in the state in Class 1A, (33-33) in a tiebreaker. Lakewood’s lone loss came against Pasco (57-9).

Bailey Sever, Robert Collier, Ty McLeod and Jared Dipsiner all went 3-1.

+ Lady Pirates improve to 14-5
The Braden River High girls basketball team went 2-1 this week to improve its record to 14-5, tying a school record for wins in a season.

The Lady Pirates opened the week with a 64-53 victory over Venice Jan. 8. Cheyenne Ogline and Kelly Logan both had 16 points to pace Braden River. Kiki Mitchell added 11 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals.

On Jan. 10, Braden River defeated Booker 62-45. Ogline finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Mitchell added 11 points and eight steals. Alexis Stout had 10 points and six steals.

The Lady Pirates wrapped up the week with a 50-36 loss to Sarasota Jan. 11. Madison Jaco finished with 11 points and four blocks to lead the way for Braden River. Logan scored eight points and Ogline added seven points.

+ Sun Coast Senior Men’s Tennis League in full swing
The Sun Coast Senior Men’s Tennis League is in the midst of its 31st season with more than 1600 players from 30 tennis clubs in Sarasota and Manatee Counties.

The league began its season in early November and will continue playing through March.
