What was your reaction when you won?
I was excited. I’ve never been a part of a sport until now, so it was a good feeling.
What made you decide to try weightlifting?
I always went to the gym and lifted weights. I never tried weightlifting (as an organized sport), so I decided to join the team.
What do you enjoy the most about weightlifting?
The feeling you get when you’re able to lift something up that you’ve never done before. I also like setting and (achieving) new goals.
Do you prefer the bench press or the clean and jerk?
Definitely, the bench. That’s what makes me win. I used to do Raiders and we did a lot of pushups, so I’m strong in the chest.
Do you have any siblings?
I have two older brothers, Danny and Sam.
Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?
I want to go to West Point and go into the Army. I’ve always wanted to be in the Army, and I want to go in as an officer.
If you could play another sport for a day, what would it be?
Rugby. All of my friends say it’s so hardcore, so I might as well try it.
Do you have a favorite TV show?
“The Walking Dead.” I like zombies.
If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would it be?
Any island that’s away from everyone.
What is your favorite food?
Cheese fries.
Who is your biggest role model?
My dad; he’s always been there for me.
