+ City Pizza doubles in size
City Pizza, located at 6645 Midnight Pass Road, is expanding its space to 3,600 square feet — twice its previous size — and adding a bar featuring craft beers and TVs.
The restaurant’s owners, Frank and Marylou Segretti and their son, Frank Jr., bought the former real-estate office next door. They increased their seating from 75 to 125 people.
“We always knew that our product was the best around, but we didn’t have the space we wanted,” said Marylou Segretti.
The Segretti family owned an Italian restaurant in the Bronx, N.Y., for nearly 40 years before moving in 1990 to Sarasota for the sunny weather. Frank Segretti Jr. also owns Tavern on Main, in downtown Sarasota.
The renovation will be complete in two weeks; City Pizza will re-open Monday, Feb. 4. City Pizza is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Sunday.
+ Mandala Med Spa adds hoop dancing
Mandala Med Spa and Yoga Shala added hoop-dancing classes to its already extensive list of meditative courses. The spa aims to “unite Eastern and Western medicine therapies for a holistic approach to beauty and wellness,” said spa director Angela Nisbet.
Hoop dancing combines dance, meditation and exercise to tone and heal the body. Participants are taught various hoop techniques such as keeping the hoop up and dancing in the hoop to find their own rhythm. Classes are 10 a.m. Wednesdays. In addition, a tai chi chih series will be offered at 11 a.m. Mondays and Fridays, starting Feb. 1. Tai chi chih is moving meditation designed to activate balance. It incorporates slow, gentle movements that help reduce stress and regulate blood pressure and weight.
