The first turtle nest of the season has hatched.

Volunteers will excavate the nest, which is located at Longboat Harbour Towers, 4401 Gulf of Mexico Drive, at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 6.

The event is open to the public and will take place rain or shine but will be canceled if there is lightning.

Parking is available at 4415 Gulf of Mexico Drive between La Playa Condominium and Longboat Harbour Towers.
