EAST COUNTY — Manatee County technology students showed off their skills and again secured national honors as they competed June 28 through July 2, at the National Technology Student Association Conference in Orlando.

Two East County schools — Braden River High and Nolan Middle — secured national championship titles, both earning the highest number of points within their respective age divisions for the second consecutive year.

Overall, Manatee’s 171 student competitors earned 194 top 10 finishes; 66 students earned trophies for taking first, second or third place in 71 competitive events.

“For the seventh year in a row, Manatee County Technology Student Association competitors ranked first in the nation at the National TSA Conference,” said Doug Wagner, Manatee Schools’ director of adult, career and technical education. “Manatee students brought home five first-place, seven second-place and 11 third-place national event titles.”

TSA teams from Lakewood Ranch, Bayshore, Manatee and Southeast high schools also competed.

Lakewood’s Nathan Miller earned one of two high school level first-place finishes, in the category of “dragster design.”

In the middle school division, students from Haile, Braden River, Johnson and Sugg also were represented.

Haile’s team earned four top 10 rankings. Braden River also earned one third-place finish.
