Last season, the non-profit theater company PLATO was homeless, and events were temporarily held at the Ramada Inn, Sarasota. But, Kyle Turoff, president and artistic director, was hoping to secure a location for future productions, as well as an education space within Sarasota county — and she’s settled on a hopeful location.
Grand Slam Plaza located at the southwest corner of Tuttle Avenue and 12th Street, across the street from the Ed Smith Stadium. Turoff says that before timelines can be set, the non-profit company needs to raise about $70,000. Currently, there is no lease signed.
A musical fundraising event will take place Monday, Aug. 5, at Jager Tavern and Grill, 1100 North Tuttle Ave. inside of the Grand Slam Plaza.
There will be a virtual preview of the new theater and education space along with entertainment emceed by Bob Trisolini featuring Gary Kauffman, Annie Morrison, Kathryn Parks, Roberta MacDonald, Helen Holiday, Ben Turoff and more.
Turoff says some free events for children are in the works for the upcoming season.
