The 83rd Annual Tarpon Tournament presented Suncoast Charities for Children with a check July 20, for $10,001 at the Hyatt Regency at its awards ceremony.

Anglers cast their lines May 18 to June 23 in hopes of catching a silver king of the sea at the 83rd Annual Tarpon Tournament. This year's contribution surpassed last year’s donation of $7,500.

The grand prize was  $1,000 cash; two tarpon spinning rods and reels from Economy Tackle; signed limited-edition print of Brendan Coudal’s tarpon artwork; and an engraved plaque. First place went to Tom Goshorn who caught a tarpon with a 34-inch girth during the Fish Off June 29. Goshorn was the only angler to catch a tarpon that day.
