Maggi Taylor has spent her life as a trained actress in professional and community theater, and to Taylor, “Theatre is in my DNA — it sounds kind of corny, but it’s just what I have to do.”

When she and her husband moved to Venice, at first, it was just as snowbirds and she didn’t have enough time to be in an actual production. But because “It’s just what she does” she painted scenery. When they moved here full-time, she had started performing on-stage in addition to volunteering off-stage.

Since her initial involvement, she has come to understand first-hand, the kind of role Venice Theatre plays in the community with its education and outreach programs. For instance, Taylor has helped with costumes with the annual Loveland Follies, the collaboration between Venice Theater and The Loveland Center where adults with developmental disabilities put on a theater production.

“This is my real love,” she says of the collaboration. “I have seen what has happened to some of them because of this program, and it just gets ya.”

She started donating annually, but this year has created a matching grant because, in Taylor’s mind “If you have two dollars extra, you give it to the theater.”
