June 8 marked our performance of "Vocal Vixens" at the HuB. I am thrilled to report that it was fantastic evening!
Lyn Purmort, Hannah Jae and I performed a selection of songs made famous by singers such as Whitney Houston, Julie Andrews, Edith Piaf, Sarah Brightman and Billie Holiday. Surprise guest artists Sharon Lesley and David Ohrenstein (a.k.a mom and dad) joined me for the "Flower Duet" from the opera Lakmé. Bob Constantino was the musical director and arranger, while Bobby Ryan rocked the drums. Cliff Roles took some amazing photos from the cabaret.
Despite it being a rainy summer night, we performed for a packed house. Dozens of audience members actually stood because there weren't enough seats!
After long weeks of rehearsing, sweating the little details and the big picture, everything seemed to come together magically.
Of course I had to pick out which rhinestones would glitter best throughout the performance.
A pair of sparkly vintage shoes I picked up in Arcadia completed my ensemble.
Sound check before the audience began to arrive.
Incredibly, the place was packed well beyond our expectations, especially after the remaining bands from Tropical Storm Andrea were moving through our area. The three of us performed a beautiful three-part harmony to "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables.
Young Hannah Jae wowed the crowd with her incredible voice and personality, seen here singing "Through the Eyes of Love."
Tap dancing was in order for "Get Happy," inspired by Judy Garland's rendition in Summer Stock.
A mother/daughter duet was a must!
Getting a little carried away for "How Long Has This Been Going On?" by George and Ira Gershwin.
Three very grateful singers closing the night with "Bye, Bye, Blackbird."
Enjoy a few minutes of highlights from the show filmed by Bill Wagy!
The entire evening was presented by Just Friends Entertainment. Special thanks to Cliff Roles for capturing the moments! Vocal Vixens will return.
