+ Art extravaganza
The Visual and Performing Arts Program at Booker High School will display students’ work at an all-level art show from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 8. The show will be held in the new 8,000-square-foot building and will exhibit all mediums of art. Adjunct art professor at Ringling College of Art and Design Jeff Cornwell designed a logo guests can have screen-printed onto T-shirts.
+ Philanthropic flash mob
More than 100 students and parents from the NewGate School partnered with Fuzión Dance Artists to perform a flash mob Friday, March 1, at Lakewood Ranch Main Street. The dance, which was performed to the song “Do-Re-Mi,” kicked off the 36-Hour Giving Challenge. The Giving Challenge is an online donation event took place March 5 and March 6, to benefit 300 area nonprofits. Watch the video online at yourobserver.com.

Students at Bay Haven School of Basics plus will transform their classrooms into six different Spanish-speaking locations Friday, March 8. Kindergartners will represent Spain; first-graders will represent Peru; second-graders will represent Mexico; third-graders will represent Nicaragua, fourth-graders will represent Venezuela; and fifth-graders will represent Puerto Rico. The theme, “Domingo en la Plaza,” Spanish for “Sunday in the square,” will give students a glimpse of what they may see if they were to visit a small town square in the featured areas. Students will tour the classrooms with passports, and selected students will perform a Latin dance.
