Poor parenting
10:08 a.m. — (Address Baker Acted). Information Only. A woman gave birth to a child who tested positive for methadone. The child is at the hospital and has not been released to the parents because the infant is withdrawing from the drug. Deputies investigated the parents to determine if they were fit to pick up their child from the hospital. The parents denied using drugs and took drug tests for the deputies. They both tested positive for methadone, methamphetamines and amphetamine. They agreed to enroll in a voluntary drug program while their child stays at the hospital.
March 4
Three’s company
4:33 p.m. — 12700 block of Upper Manatee River Road. Burglary. A woman awoke to find the intruder, who had been doing work on the home, walking up the stairs. The intruder is a longtime friend of a man who lives in the home. The woman grabbed the intruder’s shirt and asked why he was there. As the woman escorted the intruder to the door, the man who lives in the home returned and told the suspect to leave. The man and woman filed charges.

Clean steal
1:03 p.m. — 5200 block of 72nd Street E. Burglary. Unknown person(s) stole $295 worth of items from an unlocked car in the owner’s garage. Deputies were able to obtain several fingerprints from the vehicle’s doors, because the car had been washed shortly before the theft.
March 6
Push it
3:10 p.m. — 100 block of Alpine Court. Criminal Mischief. A woman left her home for an hour, and when she returned, she found her front door had been pushed in slightly. The woman said this has happened in the past, and she believes her neighbor did it. A neighbor at the scene said she didn’t see anyone push the door.

Jail withdrawal
6:44 p.m. — 8300 block of Lockwood Ridge Road. Petit Theft. A woman stole $90.57 worth of cosmetics from a department store. The woman, who said she had recently been released from jail after serving 90 days, said she was being “stupid.” She continued to say that she feels safest in jail. Deputies also found an empty syringe, a clean spoon and a wire dish scrubber in the woman’s possession. She stated the objects “belonged to a friend.”
March 7
Bogey
2:14 p.m. — 7300 block of Tara Preserve Lane. Grand Theft. Someone stole a cash box containing $500 from a golf club manager’s desk. Only three other employees have access to the office where the box was kept.
Seeing the light
2:58 p.m. — 12300 block of Hollybush Terrace. Larceny. A man called the police to report theft of light bulbs from his front yard lamppost.
