Cops Corner: East County

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. 

March 8
Handyman
3:57 p.m. — 11500 Palmbrush Trail. Suspicious Incidents. When a man arrived at work, he noticed the door to his business was not opening properly. A deputy inspected the rear door of the business and noticed areas near the lock appeared to have some old pry marks. The lock plate on the doorframe was damaged; however, it appeared it had been in poor condition for a while. The deputy slid the plate and secured the lock. The door worked again.

Family matters
9:57 p.m. — 4900 block of Windmill Manor Avenue. Trespass Warning. A father has been having trust issues with his two sons, who do not live at his house. When his sons came to his house, the father asked they be trespassed from his property. The sons left the scene without conflict.

Missing meds
10:42 p.m. — 100 block of 41st Circle E. Lost Property. An elderly man alleged someone stole his prescription medication from his home. The man appeared confused as to how the medicine was stolen. A deputy filed a lost property report.

March 9
Take a crack at it
9:17 p.m. — 2600 block of 27th Street East. Property Found. A deputy observed a man riding a bike with no lights northbound on 27th Street E. When the deputy activated the blue light on his vehicle, the man threw a cigarette box on the ground. The box contained two glass pipes, but there wasn’t enough residue to complete a drug test for crack. Police destroyed the pipes.

March 10
Dirty trick
12:39 a.m. — 8300 block of Lockwood Ridge Road. Obtain Property. A man received a phone call from a person claiming to be his grandson. The caller said he had gotten into an accident in Mexico and needed cash for treatment. The man sent the caller $4,466. The caller eventually made two more calls requesting money. During the third call, the man asked the caller questions to confirm his identity. The caller could not answer his questions correctly. Realizing he had been scammed, the man hung up the phone.

Taxing experience
5:58 p.m. — 6100 block of 26th Avenue E. Fraud. A couple’s accountant filed their 2012 taxes. The IRS informed the couple their 2012 taxes had already been filed. The couple doesn’t know anyone who would have taken their Social Security numbers.

March 11
Stolen identity
12:09 a.m. — 800 block of Kay Road NE. Fraud. A man reported that an unknown person(s) used his Social Security number. He has gotten less Social Security benefits because the unknown suspect(s) works, but the man does not.

Bus blues
12:45 a.m. — 8300 block of Lockwood Ridge Road. Lost Property. A man reported he lost his organizer, passport and checkbook at a bus stop.

Just roll with it
2:26 p.m. — 5100 block of Windmill Manor Avenue. Stolen Decal. A woman reported someone stole her mother’s mobile-home decal from an outside window.

Howdy, neighbor
5:07 p.m. — 9100 block of Town Center Parkway. Fraud. An employee at a dental office attempted to obtain a prescription by fraudulent means at a pharmacy next door to his work.

March 13
Target practice
1:45 p.m. — 5800 block of Ranch Lake Boulevard. Criminal Mischief. Unknown person(s) used an unknown instrument to either hurl or shoot pellets at a vehicle in a department store parking lot. The pellets struck twice on the rear tailgate below the rear window, causing chips in the paint. There were no witnesses, and the video cameras of the store showed nothing.
