Dear Editor:
We sincerely wish to thank everyone who supported the Lord’s Warehouse Fashion Show and Luncheon March 7, at the Longboat Island Chapel. A special thanks to Martha Sammons Miller and her kitchen crew, who prepared and served the luncheon to almost 200 people in a half-hour. Another big thank you to all the merchants and friends who donated raffle and silent-auction items.

More than 40 volunteers took part in this event and as co-chairpersons, we would like to express our sincere appreciation for helping to make this a successful event. The show, fashions, lunch and raffles exceeded all our expectations.

+ Wake-up time
Dear Editor:
It’s wake-up time!

I visited the town website defining the parameters that must be followed to fix the very poor cell phone reception on the north end of Longboat Key. I was not impressed because it does not provide a level playing field and is a roadblock to fixing the problem.

If the wireless providers thought the Distributed Antenna System (DAS) system was affordable, they would have solved the problem years ago. If the town is dumb enough to subsidize the cost, have at it; but we (the people at the north end of the Key) want the problem solved this year!

The electorate knew the position on cell phones of the candidates who lost the recent commission election; that’s why the north end supported your leadership.

Go with the proven success model: the cell tower. The Longboat Island Chapel can put the royalties to good use. When other affordable technologies become available, move away from the tower solution.

Think where we would be today if the government told Henry Ford he could not build the Model T unless it had a self-starter. When technology is economically feasible, the public will endorse it.

Governments perform better when they get out of the way!
