Cheyenne followed up her performance with another complete game, allowing five hits and striking out 12 to lead the Lady Blazers to a 12-1 victory over Booker March 22.
It was Cheyenne’s third-straight win on the mound and eighth win overall. She has pitched every game this season en route to leading Sarasota Christian to an 8-4 record.
"I’ve been playing since I was 4 years old. My dad worked at Miss Sarasota Softball as the director, and that’s the youngest age you can start.
I love hitting. It feels good when you get a hit. Last year, I did OK with my hitting, but this year I’ve improved.
Pitching gets a little intense sometimes. You feel like all of the pressure is on you.
I haven’t always wanted to pitch, but this year I’m the only pitcher. My sister, Cassidy, doesn’t like to pitch.
I like throwing changeups. It’s not my best pitch, but it’s the one that’s the most fun. If I can strike them out on it, then it makes me laugh.
It’s hard facing good batters who can hit most of your pitches.
I started on varsity when I was in sixth grade. It was special because I got to play on the same team as my sister for my first year.
I’m batting above .400 right now. I want to have the highest batting average on the team.
If I wasn’t a pitcher, I would want to be a shortstop or second baseman. It’s not as close as home plate, so you don’t have to react as fast.
If I wasn’t playing softball, then I definitely would be playing volleyball. It’s my favorite sport. I just enjoy it."
