Cops Corner: Longboat Key

April 19
The all clear
8:17 a.m. — 5900 block of GMD. Parking. A man flagged down police to report that construction vehicles were blocking access to his driveway. Police told construction crews to make sure all property owners could access their driveways.

Wetting their whistle
10:34 p.m. — 600 block of Buttonwood Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman heard a loud noise similar to a firecracker going off near her garage. Police checked the interior of the home and didn’t find anything suspicious. While outside the home, police heard someone whistle but couldn’t locate anyone. Neighbors said that sometimes people enter the area by boat and make noise while on the water.

April 20
‘I do’ agree to keep it down
9:48 p.m. — 2100 block of GMD. Disturbance. A resident complained about the loud music a band was playing at a wedding reception. A man who was in charge of security said he would ask the band to keep it down.

Tow, tow, tow your boat
11:33 a.m. — 3800 block of GMD. Property Found. Police responded to a report of a canoe, found near a condominium, that residents carried to land. The canoe didn’t have a registration but did have serial numbers. Police contacted Public Works about removing the canoe.

Get your kicks
12:22 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Burglary. Police discovered the door of a Colony Beach & Tennis Resort unit had been kicked in. The suspect apparently left without entering the unit.

On the hook
3:46 p.m. — 400 block of GMD. Property Damage. A stray golf ball hit a police patrol vehicle. Police located the golfer who hit the ball. He said he had hooked his last shot, and it entered traffic. Police told him he would be contacted about the broken window.

Barbie’s dream car?
3:57 p.m. — 100 block of N. Shore Road. Suspicious Vehicle. After receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle trying to park at a beach access, police found a white car with pink and purple wheels unoccupied.

Dazed and confused
11:33 p.m. — 2100 block of GMD. Disturbance. Police found three people in a car in a parking lot who appeared to be intoxicated but denied driving, saying instead that they were looking for a cellphone they lost. The two males were arguing over the female in the car — and the lost vehicle. They had no idea where they were or how to get back to south Sarasota. Because the vehicle wasn’t running and there were no keys in the ignition, no one was arrested for DUI.

April 22
Comment dites-vous “town ordinance”?
5:27 a.m. — 4700 block of GMD. Camping. A motor home was backed into a beach access that is clearly marked as no overnight parking. The motorist was on vacation from France. Police told him about the town’s ordinance prohibiting overnight parking.

Taken out with the trash?
7:59 a.m. — 2800 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A caller reported a man rummaging through a curbside trashcan. Police searched the beach and streets but couldn’t find the man.

Rusty on the details
9:57 a.m. — 6700 block of GMD. Lost/Missing Property. A woman had been away from her property for nearly a year and returned to find her bicycle missing. She said it was rusty and red with a rear green fender that had her phone number written on it. She isn’t sure if someone stole it or if she misplaced it.

In a tight spot
10:15 a.m. — 2200 block of GMD. Parking. A condo resident reported that someone parked in her designated parking spot. Police explained that they couldn’t enforce a parking complaint on private property.

April 23
Smash hit
7:58 a.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Vandalism. Police found a broken window at a Colony Beach & Tennis Resort unit.
