+ Sarasota Dolphins registration ongoing
Registration is now open for those interested in playing tackle football for the Sarasota Dolphins third- and fourth-grade team.

Only 25 players will be allowed on the roster. Some second-graders will be considered for the team with a tryout.

Registration is $300 and includes equipment and a game jersey. Those who register before May 31 will save $50.

+ Former Lady Ram launches soccer academy
Riverview High graduate Danielle Mayer, an All-America recipient at Polk Community College and starter and captain for Lindenwood University, recently launched Soccer Time Academy.

Soccer Time Academy is a soccer-enrichment company designed to help prepare future soccer stars for the Special Olympics and to help players enhance their athletic soccer skills.

After mentoring for the Special Olympics while attending Lindenwood, Mayer wanted to give back to the community.

Soccer Time Academy will hold three skill-level sessions on weekends. Each session will last two hours.

Level 1 is for those with intellectual disabilities and includes basic skills with a modified team competition and age-specific soccer drills and games. Level 2 is designed for seventh- and eighth-graders who want to enhance their skills to prepare them for high school tryouts. Finally, Level 3 is for high school freshmen and sophomores and will include in-depth education of how to contact colleges, prepare a bio for college scouts and advanced ball skills.

Cost is $20 per session, and a minimum of four sessions is required to participate in the academy.

+ Youth baseball tourneys coming to Sarasota
Prospect Wire will host its Florida state finals for four age groups of high school baseball players June 8 through June 12, at Ed Smith Stadium and the Buck O’Neil Sports Complex.

The tournament is designed to showcase the players’ abilities for college and professional scouts’ consideration. The event is expected to include more than 2,000 participants and 1,000 spectators each day.

“We are thrilled to bring the tournament back to Sarasota and the Orioles’ facilities,” says Matt Bomeisl, of Prospect Wire. “This is the largest amateur state championship in summer baseball.”

In addition, Suncoast Baseball will hold its second tournament in June, with up to 20 teams
