Many Longbeach Village residents who live within 500 feet of Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant & Pub didn’t receive proper notification that the Planning and Zoning Board and Longboat Key Town Commission were discussing a controversial application earlier this spring.
The errors mean that the planning board will revisit Mar Vista owner Ed Chiles’ application to increase the restaurant’s seating by 11 and add a meeting room and deck to the historic Rufus P. Jordan House.
The town has implemented new notification procedures to prevent future errors.
The town will begin using newly updated Geographic Information System (GIS) data, which is used by most jurisdictions throughout the state and nation, according to an email Town Manager Dave Bullock sent the commission.
The town will also require applicants to give staff a list of properties they mailed notification to immediately after mailing the notices, instead of waiting until a public hearing to provide the list.
