+ Rams best Seminoles in their spring game
The Riverview High football team held off Southeast’s second-half surge to edge past the Seminoles 42-35 in its spring game May 24.

Junior Richie James, a former wide receiver who converted to quarterback following the departure earlier this year of former quarterback Dominic Mario, accounted for all five of the Rams’ touchdowns.

James completed all five of his passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a game-high 173 yards, scoring touchdowns on runs of 46, 18 and 59 yards.

Riverview running back Karan Higdon rushed for 108 yards and hauled in a 55-yard touchdown.

+ Booker shut out in spring action
The Booker High football team fell to Palmetto 21-0 in its spring game May 23.

The Tornadoes were unable to break onto the scoreboard despite a strong defensive effort. Booker held Palmetto to 53 yards on the ground in the first half.

Marlon Mack led the way offensively with 101 yards on the ground.

+ Turnovers prove costly for Sailors
The Sarasota High football team committed five first-half turnovers, which proved to be too much to overcome. The visiting Sailors fell to St. Petersburg 56-21 in their spring game May 24.

Sarasota scored on its initial possession when quarterback Caulin McNeal punched the ball in from a yard out to cap off an 80-yard drive. McNeal completed eight passes for 120 yards.

Sailors running back Marque Upshaw rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.
