A downtown Sarasota condominium development stepped into the national spotlight Tuesday, taking center stage in New York City’s Time Square.

A news display at the iconic midtown Manhattan commercial intersection announced that units are now up for sale at the AQUA luxury condominium development, which will be built along Sarasota’s bayfront at Golden Gate Point.

Sarasota-based Guy Peterson Office for Architecture (OFA), the American Institute of Architects 2013 Florida Firm of the Year, designed the project.

According to architects and developers, AQUA is set to break ground around the beginning of 2014 and will reset the bar for design and luxury in downtown Sarasota.

The 9-story building will include eight units more than 5,000 square feet in size, including two penthouse suites topping 6,000 square feet. Each unit will include 360-degree views of downtown Sarasota and out to the bay in the direction of Bird Key and the Ringling Bridge.

The project’s design, which is already drawing national attention, and its prominent location along Sarasota’s bayfront as seen going east on the Ringling Bridge will make it a downtown icon, people familiar with the project said.
