This weekend, our beautiful little city was given a major dose of creativity and a unique cultural fix, with the Sarasota Chalk Festival. Super hip Burns Court became that much more hip as artists from all over the world created beautiful works of art on the streets — using only chalk as their medium. The energy of live art, live music and street food was magnetic as masses of excitable people gathered to partake in this awesome annual festival.

Cut to 8 p.m., and I find myself in the Rosemary District at Sarasota's premier creative space, The Ice House for the Chalk Festival Closing Night Awards party. Amidst a sea of innovative contemporary art, live mariachi music and über-cool, paint-splattered clothing, I had to constantly remind myself I was indeed in Sarasota, and not the Lower East Side of Manhattan.  I declare this weekend: "chalk-chic."
