Tropical Storm Karen has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is slated to make landfall by Sunday, according to an update issued by the National Hurricane Center at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.
The tropical cyclone has maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour, and is on track to hit the Florida panhandle this weekend. Forecasters expect the storm to become a hurricane some time tomorrow, then weaken into a tropical storm before making landfall.
